Water and resource efficiency for the European food chain

Date:

Tue, 27 Oct 2015

Address:

Permanent Representation of Spain to the European Union, Boulevard du Régent 52/Regentlaan 52, 1000 Brussels

Description:

Many natural resources are wasted during food production and processing due to lack of technology solutions and knowledge especially by producers and end-users. The  conference will present ready-to-market technological solutions, practices and management strategies across crop cultivation, fresh food processing and waste valorization developed during the three-year RESFOOD project.

The proposed solutions have lead to significant saving in terms of water reuse and nutrient recovery during irrigation, improved monitoring and disinfection techniques of fresh-cut food, up to more efficient and environment-friendly extraction techniques of valuable materials from food by-products. Applicability and cost-effectiveness of these tools and their impact all along the food supply chain will be presented by their own developers to support knowledge transfer and further exploitation.

The conference will include a brokerage session addressing the upcoming Horizon2020 Call on food security and sustainable agriculture with the aim to present a number of project ideas and support consortium building.

The  conference is the closing event of the EU FP7 project RESFOOD and is organised in collaboration with the Food for life and the  Water Supply and Sanitation European technology platforms

RESFOOD «Resource Efficient and Safe Food Production and Processing» is a project funded under the 7th Framework Programme (FP7) of the European Commission, aiming to achieve maximised resource productivity and recycling and re-use of valuable materials by research and demonstration of the proposed green solutions.
