The Digital Jobs Fair offers students, professionals in the ICT sector, and unemployed ICT literates in Spain an opportunity to get recruitment interviews with companies from the 3 participating countries: UK, the Netherlands, Germany. These countries are among those with the largest deficits of trained people to fill positions that require specific digital skills.

Currently 40 companies have registered to participate including JP Morgan, Amazon UK, German company KuppingerCole information security, Dutch companies such as TomTom and Booking.com and the Spanish subsidiaries of Accenture and IBM. They are participating in the Digital Jobs Fair in Madrid to try to attract skilled workers to fill their digital vacancies.

"This excellent initiative puts the idea of the Digital Single Market into practice,” said Andrus Ansip, Vice-President of the European Commission for the Digital Single Market. "Europe has many digital jobs that urgently need to be filled; matching them up with tech-savvy jobseekers will help to address the digital skills gap."

The fair will also aim to showcase ICT training opportunities for jobseekers and ICT professionals willing to acquire new skills needed to pursue digital careers.

Background

The European Digital Jobs Fair is a collaboration between two European Commission initiatives: EURES, a long-standing employment portal which matches jobs and skills in Europe, and the Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs, a multi-stakeholder partnership to tackle the lack of digital skills in Europe and the thousands of unfilled ICT-related vacancies across all industry sectors.
