The European Space Agency (ESA) is organizing the 2nd consultation meeting of EO Open Science in ESRIN (Frascati, Italy) on 12–14 September 2016 to explore new challenges and opportunities for EO research created by the rapid advances in Information and Communications Technologies (ICT). This includes open tools and software, data-intensive science, virtual research environment, citizen science and crowdsourcing, advanced visualization, e-learning and education of the new generation of EO and Data scientists. 

The conference will present precursor activities in EO Open Science and Innovation and develop a Roadmap preparing for future ESA scientific exploitation activities.  

 

The main objectives of the conference are to :

• Gather and foster the emerging EO Open Science scientific community,
• Provide a forum for scientists and value-adding players to present activities relevant to the EO Open Science themes,
• Provide a forum for international exchange on EO Open Science and for scientists to formulate community recommendations,
• Present large-scale international initiatives in the domain of EO Open Science,
• Consult scientists to prepare future ESA scientific Exploitation Elements activities supporting EO Open Science.

The conference is open to scientists, educators, developers and students working in the fields covered by EO Science and representatives from National, European and International space and value adding industry interested in the new EO Science approach and activities.
