36th International Symposium on Remote Sensing of Environment

Date:

Mon, 11 May 2015

Description:

The 36th International Symposium on Remote Sensing of Environment (ISRSE), organised by the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in partnership with the International Center for Remote Sensing of Environment (Tucson, Arizona), will take place on May 11-15, 2015 in Berlin, Germany. The overall theme of the symposium is the use of Earth Observation systems and related Remote Sensing techniques for understanding and managing the Earth‘s environment and resources.

ISRSE-36 will be an excellent forum to present scientific achievements related to and future plans for recent international developments such as the upcoming Sustainability Development Goals and the second Hyogo Framework of Action with its goal to substantially reduce disaster losses. It will feature recent milestones in the development of Earth observation programmes that address sustainable development, global environmental issues and resilience to disasters:

·   The Copernicus Programme – the European Earth Observation Programme.

·   Other significant Earth Observation programmes such as the US Land Imaging Program, Landsat , the SPOT, Radarsat, ALOS or CBERS programmes.

·    The German Aerospace Center DLR‘s TerraSAR-X and TanDEM-X missions.

The Symposium will include plenary and thematic sessions, poster sessions and side events on issues of interest to scientists, policy makers and resource managers in the public and private sectors. The programme will feature speakers from around the globe sharing their experiences and knowledge on Earth observation applications and programmes.

The JRC will present the Global Wildfire Information System (GWIS), a joint initiative of international research institutions and space agencies (e.g. NASA, ESA) in the context of the Group on Earth Observations (GEO), which is led by the JRC.
